Check Guarantor Enables Phone Verification Service

EZCheck, a Houston-based check guarantee and payment services company, says last week it has launched smart phone access called EZVerify to its check verification service enabling mobile merchants to get a guarantee on a check. Check guarantee companies reimburse merchants for bad checks if the checks have been vetted against the guarantee company’s database.

Don Singer, EZCheck senior vice president, tells PaymentsSource that mobile merchants, such as tow truck operators and direct home salespeople, can use any Web browser-equipped smart phone, such as an Apple Inc. iPhone or BlackBerry device.

Merchants click on the EZVerify icon that loads a Web page on the smart phone, Singer says. After entering a user name and password, the merchant enters the check’s routing and account numbers and dollar amount. If the check is OK, EZCheck issues a code the merchant writes on the check.

EZVerify also can accept additional transaction-related information, such as a driver’s license number when further identity information is necessary.
