International Payments Solutions (Shanghai) Ltd and the Bank of China Ltd are collaborating with China-based Golden Holiday Travel Network on a promotion with incentives designed to increase the number of Chinese travelers who book tour packages online.
One promotional offer features a tour package to the U.S. that consumers can purchase exclusively online through the end of October, Yang Cao, Golden Holiday vice president, tells PaymentsSource. The package includes a discount of 1,500 yuan ($US 234 or 169 euros) and a gift bag with the total price of 18,888 yuan.
The promotion targets affluent Chinese consumers, who tend to book travel such as airline tickets and hotels separately in order to get the best bargains, Cao says, and steer away from tour packages.
“We want to push online purchasing of entire packages, which we think is more convenient for both the user and travel,” he says. “China has the world’s largest Internet user base, but only 7% of this base makes online travel bookings as against 35% in western nations.”
Cao says Golden Holiday plans similar efforts in the coming months in order to drive online travel-package sales.
