Citibank customers in Thailand can now use their cell phones to access their bank accounts with Citi Mobile, Citi announced earlier this month. The company says it is the first foreign bank to offer mobile banking in Thailand.

CitiMobile includes four key services: banking, payments, enquiry and alerts. Citi Mobile Banking enables customers to access Internet banking to check balances, transfer funds and review transaction details for up to 90 days. Citi Mobile Payments enables customers to top up their mobile phone minutes. Citi Mobile Enquiry enables customers to receive account information via SMS text messages. Citi Mobile Alerts provides deposit and card alerts, including when customers are near their maximum credit limits, when payments are due or past due, and when cards are activated.

“Since Citibank Thailand has only one branch (due to the local regulation), Citi Mobile enhances our existing channels, enabling Citibank customers to get access to banking services much easier with higher convenience,” according to a Citibank Thailand statement to PaymentsSource. “We are confident that the popularity of mobile phone and familiarity of nonvoice service usage among Thai customers will create a [satisfactory] adoption rate of Citi Mobile services.”

Citi developed the Citi Mobile platform with Mobile Money Ventures LLC, a joint venture between Citi and SK Telecom.
