The Aarhus, Denmark-based e-security software provider calls its Crypto Service Gateway the first to deliver cryptography-as-a-service through the cloud.

The gateway provides a cluster of cryptographic servers that sit between the encryption software and hardware security modules, which provide secure cryptographic processing, and other applications requiring encryption, the company stated in a press release.

The service enables applications that need data security to share the same hardware security modules, allowing organizations to reduce the number of modules by more than 50% and have applications communicate with each other within the cloud system, the company added. As such, the cryptography-as-a-service centralizes and automates the encryption process, making it easier to manage cryptographic hardware and software, the press release stated.

The gateway’s system user application interface offers authorized personnel access to tools that manage the gateway, including secure configuration, policy management and activity monitoring, the company stated.

“Cryptographic expertise is expensive because security professionals need to have very specific industry experience and knowledge,” Morten Landrock, managing director at Cryptomathic, stated in the release.

In addition, hardware security modules are costly and organizations often duplicate security infrastructures across different projects to satisfy audits and compliance requirements, Landrock added.
