Datacard Launches New Card Printer, Supports Smart Cards

Datacard Group is offering a new CD820 instant card issuance system which can support contact and contactless EMV-chip cards.

The new product, announced April 22, works with Datacard's CardWizard issuance software, which financial institutions use to provide customers with cards at the branch.

"We live in a time where innovation and forward-thinking offerings are an everyday consumer demand and we continue to identify instant issuance as a strong global trend that many organizations are adopting to meet these needs," says Russell St. John, senior vice president of global marketing for Datacard Group, in a press release. "We are expanding our instant-issue product portfolio with this innovative product to ensure that we have a broad range of solutions that fit any card issuer's requirements."

The CD820 system supports multiple design types, including edge-to-edge graphics on both sides of the card. It also allows monochrome printing on pre-printed cards. With full-color printing, the device can handle up to 133 cards an hour with designs on both sides or up to 195 cards per hour with designs on just one side. For monochrome printing, it handles up to 371 cards an hour.
