The Debit Network Alliance has hired the Dutch firm Gemalto to provide consulting on implementing EMV anti-fraud technology.
Gemalto will help the alliance's members more quickly deploy EMV-chip card security. Gemalto will offer advice on how to modify cards and payment terminals and implement personalization requirements for EMV.
The card networks set an Oct. 1 deadline for most companies to support EMV cards in the U.S. After that date, any company not able to handle EMV payments faces a shift in fraud liability (gas stations have a two-year extension).
Gemalto can advise financial institutions on which debit or credit chip-card profile meets their current needs, the company said in an Aug. 13 news release.
Our consulting experts have provided their services to over 150 institutions in 54 countries, Bertrand Knopf, senior vice president of secure transactions for North America at Gemalto, said in the release.
Financial terms of the agreement between the Debit Network Alliance and Gemalto were not disclosed.
