Deluxe Reports High Earnings Even As Checks Business Continues Decline

Check printer Deluxe Corp. reported a strong $33.4 net for its first quarter, more than twice the $12.5 million earned for the same period last year, when restructuring and impairment charges totaled $25.7 million.

Still, the company’s core check printing business continued to slide, with revenue down slightly for its financial services operations to $101.4 million and by 6% for its direct check business to $41.4 million for the first quarter.

Revenue for the company’s business services operations was almost flat at $192.3 million for the quarter.

Overall, revenue was down just over 1% for the first quarter to $335.1 million.
