Diebold Debuts Germ-Killing ATM Screens from Corning

Diebold has introduced antimicrobial touchscreens to its automated teller machines.

The North Canton, Ohio-based financial technology company is partnering with Corning to use a Gorilla Glass touchscreen with an embedded antimicrobial agent which deters the growth of algae, mold, mildew, fungi and bacteria on its surface.  

This antimicrobial protection "won't compromise toughness or optical clarity" for Diebold ATMs, said Joydeep Lahiri, division vice president and program director of specialty services for Corning, in a Jan. 6 press release. 

Diebold will offer Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass as an option on these self-service terminals: 5500, 3500, 3700 and 9900 series ATMs. It will also provide the glass as a retrofit option for existing machines.

"Offering antimicrobial glass on frequently touched surfaces such as the ATM touchscreen will help financial institutions address the concerns of the public," said Frank Natoli, Jr., chief innovation officer of Diebold, in the release. "Our innovative collaboration with Corning will help us offer improved durability and antimicrobial function for our next generation of touchscreen ATMs."
