Diebold Inc. announced yesterday that James N. Merrell will head the ATM manufacturer's commitment to environmental stewardship. Merrell will develop a performance baseline for resource consumption as well as other strategies to determine where the company stands so it can accurately measure the success of future initiatives. Merrell has formed a global advisory board comprised of Diebold representatives from all of the world's regions. The representatives will work to implement environmental policies, collect data and evaluate performance, Diebold said in a statement. "Climate change is very real and natural resources are actively diminishing," Thomas W. Swidarski, Diebold president and CEO, said. "The time is now to take responsibility for the impact our operations may have on the environment and to serve as active participants in the global recovery effort."
