Diebold Inc. has signed an agreement to upgrade and to sell ATMs to Banca Carige in Genoa, Italy, both companies say. Banca Carige agreed to purchase Diebold Opteva ATMs and Diebold Agilis software. United States-based Diebold customized the Agilis software specifically for the bank's ATMs so they can issue checkbooks, foreign currency and cash, a Diebold spokesperson tells ATM&Debit News, a CardLine Global sister publication. In addition, Agilis enables the ATMs to accept cash and checks. The ATMs have a vocal-guiding system to assist the visually impaired. They are designed for customers to conduct small transactions, giving bank employees more time to concentrate on higher-value transactions and consulting, Diebold says. Banca Carige operates 500 ATMs in its 650-branch network. Some 200 of the bank's ATMs are Diebold machines, and 150 are Opteva models, the spokesperson says. The agreement calls for Banca Carige to expand the number of Opteva ATMs to 250, the spokesperson says.
