Discover Financial Services today launched Discover.com Mobile, a mobile version of its Web site that enables cardholders to access their accounts, make payments and view rewards activity. Developing the mobile application was a natural evolution in Discover's strategy for making information available to cardholders in a convenient manner, Steve Furman, Discover director of e-business, tells CardLine. Any phone that has Internet access can connect to the mobile site, says Furman. Discover has not done a large amount of marketing for the offering yet, he notes. "We built the whole site internally, and we took our time; there were not a ton of customers clamoring for it," he says. "But we've been pleasantly surprised at the uptake the site is getting right now." Discover is promoting the mobile site through its main Discover.com Web site. It also sent an undisclosed number of e-mails to customers earlier this week notifying them of the site, says Furman. Discover wants to let use of the site grow organically, he says. It also is using such social media tools as Facebook, Twitter and Flicker to draw cardholders to the site, Furman says.
