Consumers' struggles with the economy are driving interest in Discover Financial Services' online Spend Analyzer tool, according to Steve Furman, the card company's director of e-business. The product, which Riverwoods, Ill.-based Discover launched in November, helps cardmembers track how they spend their money. Use "has really picked up," says Furman. "We've had phenomenal feedback that the product is really helpful" to cardmembers. He did not disclose the number of cardmembers using the product. Spend Analyzer is just one of several online tools Discover has launched in the past 10 months to help cardmembers control their finances. Earlier this month, it rolled out a Web site for mobile-phone users called Discover.com Mobile (CardLine, 1/15), which enables cardmembers to check activity and make payments on their accounts, among other functions. In April, Discover rolled out the Paydown Planner, which helps cardholders determine how long it would take to pay off their balances.
