EmiratesNBD, a Dubai-based financial institution, has signed a deal with the Road Transport Authority of Dubai to issue contactless payment cards that consumers can use to pay public transit fares, the bank says in a statement. The closed-loop fare cards, called "Nol" cards, were officially launched on 9 Sept. along with the initial phase of Dubai's first subway system. Consumers can buy and add value to their Nol cards at all EmiratesNBD branches, the statement says. Consumers need not be EmiratesNBD customers to buy and recharge the cards. Immediate comment from the bank and authority was not available.
