EMS Sports Stores Testing VeriFone IPad Payment Sleeves

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly described GlobalBay, which is software used for a hardware attachment for the Apple Inc. iPad.

Eastern Mountain Sports, an outdoor equipment retailer, is testing VeriFone Systems Inc. 's GlobalBay iPad software at four of its stores, the terminal maker announced Jan. 12.

VeriFone, of San Jose, Calif., said the Peterborough, N.H., retailer is planning a larger deployment later this year. VeriFone's GlobalBay mobile retail software connects to point-of-sale systems to track inventory and customer transactions.

"No longer are we constrained by square footage as to what we can sell," Scott Barrett, EMS vice president of ecommerce, said in a press release. "Utilizing this service from VeriFone enables us to provide consumers with all of our products on-hand in the store and online."

U.S. Guess Inc. clothing and accessories stores also are deploying the sleeve (see story).
