Facebook has deployed a feature called Donate that allows people to contribute directly to nonprofits through the social networking site.
The donate button will appear beside posts shared by non-profit organizations on their Facebook pages. Followers click "donate now," chose the amount and enter payment information. They can also share the nonprofit's post with their friends, Facebook says in a
Participating organizations at launch include Unicef, Oxfam, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Boys & Girls Clubs, the Nature Conservancy, the ASPCA and Donors Choose, among others.
The new feature follows a Facebook partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross to allow people to donate directly to victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
