Google Pay reaches the web for desktop and iOS devices

Google is expanding the renamed Google Pay—formerly Android Pay—to the web so consumers may access it via desktop browsers and iOS devices.

Consumers who save payment credentials to Google Pay may use their account across other browsers in addition to Chrome, such as Safari and Firefox, regardless of the device they’re using, Google said in a blog post this week.

It's the latest of several moves Google has made in recent months to enhance the payment app's attractiveness to merchants and consumers.

Google began work on a social payments element earlier this year to boost P2P payment and compete with Venmo.

It more recently added technology to support transit payments for web-connected devices and smartphones.
