Green Dot Corp. has hired Visa Inc. veteran John MacIlwaine to be its new chief information officer, the prepaid card marketer announced Dec. 5.
MacIlwaine, whose first day is Dec. 5, will handle "the design and implementation of the company's overall technology strategy," according to a press release by Green Dot, which is based in Monrovia, Calif.
MacIlwaine most recently was Visa's head of global development. Before that, he was a chief technology officer for several different companies, including SunGard Investment Systems and for Morgan Stanley's private client group.
"John brings to Green Dot a profound expertise in technology innovation within dynamic high-growth environments," Will Sowell, Green Dot chief operating officer, said in the release. "John's particular expertise in developing secure enterprise-level mobile and Web-based payment platforms and transaction-processing systems will ensure Green Dot's voracious appetite for new technology is well-satisfied into the future."
