Groupon's Apple Watch App Includes 'Buy' Function

Groupon has launched an Apple Watch app that combines shopping, deals and payments.

The app includes three main features: Discover, Browse and Buy. Consumers use Discover to receive notifications when Groupon deals are available for nearby businesses based on their current location. The Browse feature allows users to go through offers, while the Buy option lets consumers purchase Groupon deals.

To design the new app, the Chicago-based e-commerce marketplace utilized features from its pre-existing iPhone app and adapted them to the new wearable device.

Apple Watch was released this spring, and includes Apple Pay and other functions that can build on payments, such as the ability to serve as a hotel key or boarding pass.

Groupon, which offers a point of sale system in addition to its deals app, also plans to launch future updates to the Apple Watch app, including functions that will use the wearable’s glance feature to view unused vouchers or receive notifications when a Groupon is about to expire, the company said in a June 24 press release.
