Heartland Payment Systems has certified Digital Dining and its iPad-based point of sale system for its EMV-ready security technologies.
Digital Dining will use Heartland Secure for EMV, end-to-end encryption and tokenization at restaurants using its hardware.
Heartland Secure prevents cardholder data from entering the system, thus removing the system from the scope of Payment Card Industry data security compliance. More than 50,575 restaurants currently deploy Heartland Secure, the Princeton, N.J. payments technology company and processor stated in an Aug. 18 press release.

By interfacing with Heartland Secure, Digital Dining avoids the need to code to certify for EMV, Heartland stated in the release. It helps the company get an EMV-ready system to market faster.
"Restaurant operators with a Digital Dining EMV-ready, Heartland Secure-certified POS solution, who are processing with us, are also fully protected by our comprehensive Heartland breach warranty," Michael English, vice president of product management at Heartland, said in the release.
Digital Dining's iPad system and hand-held devices also allow transactions to take place at the restaurant table, which aids in EMV payment acceptance because the diner will need to add tip amounts prior to inserting a chip card in a reader.
The iPad system targets high-volume and high-end restaurants seeking the ability to accept EMV-enabled credit and debit cards and mobile payment applications like Apple Pay, Andre Nataf, director of business development at Digital Dining, stated in the release.
