The Uttar Pradesh Power Corp. Ltd. on May 15 announced it is providing an online facility for paying electric bills in the four cities of Lucknow, Aligarh, Varanasi and Meerut. The service launched after a 15-day trial in Lucknow, a spokesperson for the utility tells PaymentsSource. The utility plans to extend the service to the entire state by the end of June.

The corporation is using Noida-based HCL Infosystems Ltd. as its technology vendor, and Gurgaon-based Punjab National Bank Ltd. will process the payments, he adds.

To make a payment, customers would have to go to www.uppclonline.com, enter their utility account number, check their bill amount, and pay using a Visa or MasterCard-branded debit or credit card. “They would also get a copy of their previous bills and can know their due amount as well,” the spokesperson says.

The utility has more than 4 million urban customers, including the 1.6 million customers in the four cities where it is launching the service.
