Citizens of Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian state of Kerala may pay their property taxes online under an initiative launched Feb. 22

Information Kerala Mission, the state’s e-governance authority, plans to expand the service to six other cities later this year, a spokesperson says tells PaymentsSource.

“Under the service, citizens of the city will be able to make property tax payments to the corporation,” he says. “Later, they would be able to pay other taxes as well such as professional taxes, and payments for various government services.”

The service will accept Visa and MasterCard-branded debit and credit cards, he adds.

“The service will be easy to use,” he says. “People will just have to go to the website and enter their registration numbers to access their accounts to make the payments.”

The fee for using the service is 5 rupees (11 U.S. cents or 8 euro cents) per tax payment.
