Indonesian Bank To Lose Cobranded Card Portfolio

PT Bank Central Asia reportedly is set to lose more 300,000 of credit card accounts. The Jakarta-based bank will lose customers who hold BCA Carrefour credit cards because the ownership of supermarket chain PT Carrefour Indonesia has changed hands, according to a March 23 report in the Jakarta Post.

In April last year, PT Bank Mega owner Chairul Tanjung acquired a 40% stake in Carrefour Indonesia. Chairul Tanjung will acquire the Carrefour card portfolio from PT Bank Central Asia and switch it over to Bank Mega.

A Bank Central Asia spokesperson declined to comment on the new report.

However, a spokesperson for Bank Mega acknowledges that such an initiative was under discussion, but he could provide no more information.

In all, Bank Central Asia had a total of 2.2 million credit cards in circulation in Indonesia as of the end of December.

The co-branded Carrefour Visa credit cards support EMV chip-and-PIN technology.
