China UnionPay customers now may use their cards in Peru under an agreement the card company signed last week with Lima-based Interbank Ltd., a spokesperson from the card company tells PaymentsSource.
Holders of UnionPay-branded cards may use them at any of Interbank’s more than 1,500 GlobalNet-branded ATMs and at approximately 1,600 payment terminals within Interbank’s point-of-sale network, the spokesperson said in a phone interview.
Interbank will modify its entire ATM network to accommodate Chinese customers, including adding a Mandarin-language menu, he added.
“We will encourage our cardholders to use Interbank’s ATMs to withdraw cash, as they will save up to 2% in currency-conversion fees,” the spokesperson says.
China UnionPay last week announced a similar arrangement in Brazil with Itaú Unibanco S.A (
