GTCR Golder Rauner LLC, a Chicago-based investment firm, has sold approximately 7 million shares in VeriFone Holdings Inc. The move means GTCR no longer holds 5% or more shares in the San Jose, Calif.-based point-of-sale terminal maker, says a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission document filed by VeriFone. According to Yahoo Finance, there are approximately 84.47 million outstanding VeriFone shares. Mutual funds and investment firms remain the largest shareholders. Neither VeriFone nor GTCR would comment on the share sale. In 2002, GTCR recapitalized the firm after Gores Technology Group LLC had owned VeriFone for about a year. VeriFone was publicly traded from 1990 until 1997, when Hewlett-Packard Co acquired it. Gores bought VeriFone in 2001 from Hewlett-Packard.
