Japan-based Toppan Printing Co. says it will produce cobranded credit cards from Citibank and the Octopus transit scheme in Hong Kong. The cards will start going to consumers and riders by late August, a Citi spokesperson tells CardLine Global. The Visa-branded cards will enable users to make transit and retail payments at some 50,000 merchant locations (CardLine Global, 18 July). Toppan has supplied Octopus cards since 1998, the spokesperson says, declining to say how many cobranded cards the Japanese company would supply. Hong Kong transit authorities have issued at least 17 million Octopus cards.
