Malaysian credit cardholders who are not satisfied with how card issuers investigate fraudulent and unauthorized transactions now can instead use the Financial Mediation Bureau, according to a report in The Star newspaper. The bureau would resolve disputes between consumers and financial institutions, according to a government official. The bureau has appointed former judges to handle disputes, the newspaper reports. Some 11 million credit cards were issued in Malaysia last year, and 541 cases of unauthorized transactions were recorded, according to Bank Negara, which set up the bureau.
