Kuala Lumpur's High Court reportedly capped consumer liability for stolen credit cards in a ruling Tuesday. In the case, Citibank had told one of its credit cardholders who reported her card stolen that she had to pay the approximately 1,850 ringgits (US$530 or 380 euros) charged to her card after the theft, according to local press reports. The court, citing guidelines from the country's central bank, ruled the cardholder was liable for no more than 250 ringgits. Immediate comment from court officials was unavailable. Citibank and other major issuers either declined comment or did not return calls.
