Celcom Axiata Bhd. is teaming with Maybank Bhd. to enable Maybank’s subscribers to make immediate payments of their mobile bills, a spokesperson from the Malaysia-based mobile operator tells PaymentsSource.

The two parties will create an online payment process via Maybank2u.com, the bank’s website, and M2U Mobile, the bank’s proprietary mobile-payment application, the spokesperson adds.

“Maybank customers who are also Celcom subscribers can use these platforms to pay their Celcom bills in real time, which means that upon making a payment their bills will be updated immediately in our records,” he says.

This is an improvement over using third party bill-payment providers, which normally take a couple of days to process payments to mobile operators and can cause inconvenience to subscribers, he says.

Customers may make the payments using either a credit card or savings accounts, depending on what the customer links to his mobile or online-banking platforms, the spokesperson says. The service is free.

With more than 10.1 million users on its network, Celcom Axiata is one of the largest telecommunication companies in Malaysia.
