MasterCard Worldwide, as part of its partnership with Major League Baseball, will donate money from its "Hit It Here" promotion for All-Star Week to the charity organization Stand Up To Cancer. The promotion includes placing signs that read "Hit It Here" in the stands at Busch Stadium in St. Louis during both tonight's Home Run Derby and the All-Star game tomorrow night. If a batter hits one of the signs during either event, MasterCard will donate $1 million to the charity. If a sign is hit during both events, MasterCard will donate a total of $2 million. Previously, MasterCard gave the prize money to a fan in attendance, but the card brand switched to the cancer charity as part of its efforts with Major League Baseball to give back to the community through President Obama's United We Serve program, Rob Steeger, MasterCard vice president of U.S. sponsorships, tells CardLine. Crews are placing three pre-designated MasterCard "Hit It Here" signs in the stadium. One is approximately 20 feet by 7 feet and is placed vertically on the left field light post, the second sign is approximately 8 feet by 33 feet and is horizontally positioned in left-center field, and the third sign is approximately 4 feet by 20 feet and is horizontally placed in right field along the facade of the upper deck. MasterCard, a sponsor of Major League Baseball, has run the promotion since 2005. Batters have hit the signs twice, once in Detroit in 2005 and once in Pittsburgh in 2006.
