MasterCard Worldwide has launched a version of its ATM Hunter mobile application for smartphones that run on Google Inc.’s Android operating system, the card brand announced Jan. 19.
MasterCard originally launched the app, which enables cardholders to locate nearby ATMs using the smartphone’s location features, for Apple Inc.’s iPhone in 2009. A version for Research In Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerry came out in early 2010.
“With the success of this application on both the iPhone and BlackBerry, it is a natural progression to bring it to the active Android user base as well,” Cheryl Guerin, MasterCard senior vice president of global digital marketing, said in a press release.
The ATM Hunter app includes a feature to help MasterCard update its ATM directory by enabling consumers report malfunctioning or missing ATMs.
