MasterCard has agreed to purchase Opus Software's electronic payment and card technology subsidiary ElectraCard Services.
The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014. The Purchase, N.Y.-based card network previously had a minority investment in ECS. Financial terms of the new transaction were not disclosed.
The Pune, India-based ECS' customers include financial institutions, merchants and telecommunications companies in more than 25 countries. Its products include electronic payments systems and processing tools for ATMs, point of sale systems, Internet and mobile payments.
"ECS's expertise complements MasterCard's products and services, making us an even stronger player in the field of processing and switching," says Vicky Bindra, MasterCard's president of Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa, in a May 19 press release.
