MasterCard Worldwide July 12 announced that Carlos Menendez is joining the company as group executive of global debit. He will assume the position Sept. 1.

Menendez’s responsibilities will include the “innovation, commercialization and development” of MasterCard’s debit strategies worldwide, which includes the Maestro and Cirrus PIN-debit brands.
He joins MasterCard after holding numerous positions at Citigroup Inc. Menendez most recently was the chief operating officer for Citi’s Western European operations, where he was responsible for consumer banking products in four countries.
