ModaSolutions Corp. has adapted its eBillme online payment system to work with Magento Inc.’s e-commerce platform, the company announced Jan. 24.

EBillme enables consumers to make payments to online retailers through a bank’s online bill-pay system. Merchants send consumers an invoice with the details to type into their bank’s site, and merchants ship the products after the payment is made.

The new Magento module enables the Rye Brook, N.Y.-base payment company’s system to work with any of the more than 80,000 merchants that use Magento’s system.

The first client using eBillme on Magento is Tool King LLC, an online hardware retailer. Tool King began using eBillme in Jan. 2006 and was one of ModaSolutions’ first clients. The retailer’s switch to Magento last year necessitated an updated version of eBillme so Tool King could continue accepting eBillme payments. Tool King was unable to accept eBillme payments for about three to four months while the payment provider adapted, ModaSolutions said.

Tool King’s move to Magento, and ModaSolutions’ consequent adaptation of its product, created “an opportunity for us to further extend our payment option into more leading retail brands,” Marwan Forzley, ModaSolutions’ chief executive, said in a press release.

The module normally costs $250 as a set-up fee, but ModaSolutions said it would offer it for free for a short time.
