Mophie, a Paw Paw, Mich.-based provider of technology accessory products such as smartphone batteries, later this week expects to reveal an external card reader and an application that manages transactions for Apple Inc.’s iPhone at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
A company spokesperson would not provide details about the card reader or confirm information in press reports describing it. “They should be announcing it at [the electronics show] this week, so more details to come,” the spokesperson notes.
The reader likely would attach to the iPhone, and users can pay for items by swiping their cards through the reader, according to press reports.
Mophie’s device will not be the first external card reader designed for the iPhone.
