Fifty-eight percent of consumers in major Asia-Pacific countries have paid bills online within the past year, suggest survey data from Visa Inc. The results are based on online surveys conducted between January and March of 2,380 consumers ages 18 to 49 from China, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Australia and India, the card network says in a statement. Consumers from Australia tend to pay out the most money paying bills online, with a monthly average of about US$810 (550 euros), followed by Japanese consumers (US$544) and Singapore consumers (US$539). Chinese consumers tend to pay the least amount toward bills online, an average of US$86. For all the surveyed countries, consumers paid a monthly average of US$405 toward paying bills online. The most popular bills paid online, in descending order, are payment card statements, mobile-phone subscriptions, Internet access, utilities and insurance, Visa says.
