NCR Corp., which announced earlier this week it will open an ATM-manufacturing plant in Brazil (CardLine Global, 17 June), either will construct a building or take over an existing structure, Richard Maton, a spokesperson for the United States-based ATM vendor, tells ATM&Debit News, a CardLine Global sister publication. The new facility, which is scheduled to open in December, will employ 250 workers. NCR is opening the factory so it can respond more quickly with new products for Brazil's and Latin America's growing ATM markets. Flextronics International Ltd., a Singapore–based company that has a manufacturing plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil, has manufactured ATMs for NCR in South America since 2007. The new NCR factory will serve as both a manufacturing plant and an engineering facility. The Brazilian factory will make SelfServ ATMs, and engineers will custom-design the machines to meet customer demands. NCR will spend US$37.5 million (27 million euros) to construct the plant, Maton says.
