NCR Pilots Mobile Check-In With Delta Air Lines

NCR Corp., one of two leading companies that sell self check-in kiosks to airports around the world, has been testing a technology that enables passengers to check in for flights using their cellular telephones. The test, which also involves Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines and the Transportation Security Administration, could pave the way for consumers to use cell phones to pay for airline tickets, says Gil Luria, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities in Los Angeles. NCR is testing mobile airline check-in at LaGuardia Airport in Flushing, N.Y., NCR chairman and CEO Bill Nuti told analysts last week during the company's analyst's day conference at the New York Stock Exchange. Travelers checking in at La Guardia download their boarding pass to their cell phones via delta.com, a Delta spokesperson says. At the security checkpoint, Transportation Security Administration employees scan the electronic boarding pass, check the customer's identification and process the passenger through security. The customer then walks to the departure gate and presents his electronic boarding pass.
