NCR Corp. today announced that it has signed a contract to provide mobile- and online-banking services to Los Angeles-based Hanmi Bank, the nation's largest Korean-American-owned financial institution in terms of assets. Through its Aptra Mobile Banking and Mobile Business Banking unit, Dayton, Ohio-based NCR will provide Hanmi Bank such services as online banking, mobile banking and mobile business banking, Jeff Dudash, an NCR spokesperson, tells CardLine sister publication ATM&Debit News. NCR, the world's largest ATM manufacturer based on 2007 shipments, will host the services so Hanmi does not have to invest in infrastructure to provide the services to its customers. Dudash says Hanmi Bank, which has $3.8 billion in assets, is one of 10 banks that have signed up for the service. NCR did not name the other nine. The NCR Aptra Mobile Banking and Mobile Business Banking unit offers the service to consumers via SMS text messaging, browser-based mobile banking and downloadable applications found on Blackberry phones and the Apple iPhone. "This service provides much more than checking balances and moving money around," Dudash says. NCR works with San Jose, Calif.-based MShift Mobile Banking Solution. Last year, NCR was one of the participants in a $15 million round of financing for mFoundry, a San Francisco-based provider of mobile financial services.
