Diamond Bank PLC and Qatar Airways Ltd. have entered into a partnership designed to increase use of the bank’s payment cards, the Nigeria-based bank announced April 13.
Under the partnership, which is not a cobranding deal, Diamond Visa credit cardholders may redeem their Gem Points for miles on the Qatar Airways frequent flyer program; cardholders will get one mile per point. The Diamond Visa credit card is the only Naira-denominated credit card available in Nigeria.
Cardholders would then be able to use their miles toward free flights and upgrades on all Qatar Airways’ routes across the world, the issuer noted in a statement.
Gem points are loyalty rewards earned when Diamond Visa credit cardholders shop. Cardholders may redeem their points for services with partners in Nigeria and abroad.
To earn one Gem point, cardholders would need to spend at least 150 Naira (US$1 or 70 euro cents) on purchases made at merchants locations in the country.
In addition, cardholders also may earn up to a 15% discount when they book tickets online and pay with a Diamond Visa credit cards through the bank’s website, according to the statement.
