Finnish handset maker Nokia Corp. is working with Near Field Communication technology developer Proxama Ltd. to develop loyalty and advertising applications, the companies announced April 19.
Based in the United Kingdom, Proxama said in a news release consumers can use NFC applications in Nokia’s new smartphones, including its C7 model, to tap tags on posters and other displays to download coupons, videos and other content.
“NFC is going to give mobile phones a completely new lease [on] life that will bring consumers greater empowerment and enhanced brand and retail experiences,” Sixten Sandstrom, Nokia director of global ecosystems, said in a Proxama press release.
