Pakistan enlists post offices for free remittance pickups

Pakistan’s central government is using its post offices to follow through on an initiative to ease electronic funds movement for remote workers sending money home.

Under a new agreement between the National Bank of Pakistan and the Pakistan Post, consumers with bank accounts may collect cash sent from outside the country at certain post office branches, according to a recent press release.

Senders may transmit funds through a range of global partners including Xpress Money, Transfast, WorldRemit, RIA Financial Services Limited, PayPal and Western Union by providing the recipient’s bank account number and the amount of the payment, the release said.

Recipients must know the exact amount of the funds plus a PIN provided by the sender to collect funds at a branch of the National Bank of Pakistan or a post office location.
