Merchants in Pakistan reportedly have threatened to stop accepting credit cards after 31 Aug. to protest the fees they pay to accept the cards. Merchants want the fees reduced to 1% of the transaction value from 3%, according to The Post newspaper. Merchants pay the fees to banks. Pakistani banking and commerce officials did not return CardLine Global calls for comment, and more information was unavailable regarding the country's card-fee structure or the potential extent of the merchant action. The report noted that economic problems are cutting into merchants' profit margins, a major reason they are seeking the fee reduction.
