Orderman, a Salzburg, Austria-based unit of NCR, will integrate payworks' mobile point of sale software development kit into its ordering and billing system, enabling merchants to accept payments with pocket-sized card readers.

The Orderman/payworks integration will allow merchants using Orderman terminals to equip their staff with a small card reader, which is designed to replace conventional wireless terminals. All payment traffic is handled through the Orderman Secure Radio (OSR) protocol.

Orderman also plans to build a variety of different mobile point of sale products on top of the payworks development interfaces. "We believe that mobile point of sale offers a huge potential for merchants to increase efficiency, gain more profits and provide a higher customer satisfaction," says Andreas Neuhofer, Director of Marketing for Orderman, in an Oct. 16 press release.

Although many mobile payments providers target smaller establishments, companies such as Viableware are also taking aim at higher-end companies in the restaurant and hospitality industries.
