Coalfire Systems, a qualified security assessor for PCI issues, has deemed Heartland Payment Systems Inc.’s E3 magnetic stripe card reader wedge as valid to minimize certain payment security compliance requirements for point-of-sale system developers, the processor announced Jan. 10.
The Princeton, N.J.-based company said Coalfire validated that its reader helps eliminate work necessary to meet the Payment Application Data Security Standard, or PA-DSS. That standard is designed to prevent the use of nonsecured payment applications that store mag-stripe, PIN and other payment card data.
Heartland’s E3 wedge prevents plain text data from being available to payment applications, the company said in a press release.
Coalfire’s assessment also determined that the product could reduce PCI compliance work for merchants by up to 69%, according to Heartland.
