Qatar Bank Launches Own ATM Network

Al khaliji Commercial Bank Ltd. today struck a deal with the Qatar Fuel Co. to deploy the bank’s ATMs at four of the petrol retailer’s outlets, according to the Qatar-based bank.

The bank, which previously had no ATMs, plans to deploy 22 machines by the end of August, seven of which it will be in branches and 15 in retail locations, including the four at the Qatar Fuel’s outlets.

Doha-based Protech Solutions WLL, a local partner for Wincor Nixdorf, is providing the ATMs.

Al khaliji Commercial issues Visa-branded debit cards in Qatar, which allows its cardholders to withdraw cash at more than 1.4 million Plus ATMs in more than 200 countries.

The bank had decided to launch its own network to further provide convenience to its cardholders by eliminating the need for them to visit other banks’ ATMs.

The bank also recently signed an agreement with Network International LLC to manage the its credit card-processing services (see story). Under the agreement, the Dubai-based card-services provider will manage the bank’s entire credit card system, from processing transactions and personalizing cards to providing fraud management, switching and clearing services.
