Responding to consumer demand for multiple alternative online-payment options, Retail Decisions Ltd. has added six payment types to its fraud-prevention and payment-processing offerings, the company announced July 7.
The London-based firm added payment capabilities for Amazon.com Inc.’s Amazon Payments, Google Inc.’s Google Checkout, Green Dot Corp., Mazooma, Moneybookers USA Inc. and Ukash, and it soon may add more options, Carl Clump, Retail Decisions’ CEO, tells PaymentsSource.
The move underscores a trend among online merchants toward supporting just one or two payment options besides credit or debit cards, he contends.
“Consumers are demanding multiple online-payment options, and e-commerce merchants increasingly want to accommodate a variety of choices for them,” Clump says. “Our goal is to integrate these various alternative payment choices seamlessly into merchants’ checkout services so they can expand their options.”
Retail Decisions is seeing strong demand this year from U.S. merchants, but European online merchants also are increasing their requests for more online-payment options, he says. The firm’s primary service enables e-commerce merchants to screen transactions for fraud risk, but it also offers payment processing.
Publicity this year about several high-profile data breaches involving credit and debit cards, particularly the Sony Corp. attack, is helping to drive more interest in online fraud-prevention services, Clump says (
“Many merchants are asking us to screen online transactions for potential fraud, even if they haven’t directly seen a fraud spike,” he says. “They want to make sure they’re not the next victim.”
