Sallie Mae Launches Mobile Check Deposit

Sallie Mae announced on Tuesday that it had introduced mobile banking to certain Apple products, allowing customers to manage their savings, money market and no-fee student checking accounts remotely. The student lender has wasted no time rolling out mobile check deposit, and lets customers deposit checks not only by snapping a photo with their iPhone or iPad, but also by using their "dorm room scanner."

Sallie Mae Mobile Banking is free to accountholders and is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Other features include locating an ATM, paying bills and transferring money between accounts. Customers also will be able to access their account balances, history and transactions and review alerts and monitor for fraud with notifications about daily balances, low balances and if withdrawal or deposit thresholds have been exceeded.

The mobile app will use advanced encryption technology for security. Customers can download the app at the Apple app store or access mobile features at m.salliemae.com.

Sallie Mae launched direct banking with online savings accounts and certificates of deposit in 2010.
