Sheetz Inc., an Altoona, Pa.-based convenience-store chain, will be the first retailer to sell First Data Corp.'s contactless Go-Tag payment sticker, Michael Capellas, First Data chairman and CEO, told analysts Friday during a conference call to discuss the processor's first quarter financial results. Capellas did not say what the price would be. Some 350 Sheetz locations in six states will make the Visa-branded tags available this summer, Capellas says. Consumers can affix the stickers, which contain contactless-payment chips, to objects such as mobile phones. When tapped on contactless readers, the stickers tie into Visa Inc.'s payWave platform to access a prepaid account. Users also will have a companion Visa-branded magnetic stripe card to access the prepaid debit account that Visa and First Data are developing, a Visa spokesperson told CardLine sister publication ISO&Agent Weekly in March (CardLine 3/26). Sheetz was among the first retailers to accept contactless payments (CardLine, 3/19/05).
