Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. plans to introduce JCB's QuicPay payment system at 500 of its gas stations beginning 1 July. The card reader "can only accept FeliCa, which takes an imprint of the credit card without contact," a spokesperson for the Tokyo-based oil products business operator tells CardLine Global. The QuicPay system has "a very high level of security and a very low possibility of skimming," the spokesperson adds. FeliCa is a contactless smart card system by Sony. The technology is used in a variety of payment cards in Japan. "It is a postpaid system, so there is no need for recharges," the spokesperson says. The company did not disclose the costs involved to adopt the payment system.
