Skrill, an e-commerce provider based in New York, plans to offer its digital wallet as a payment option in Second Life, the once-popular virtual world game that was released in 2003.
Skrill has partnered with Linden Labthe San Francisco-based software developer that created Second Lifeto integrate its digital payments software. During the height of Second Life's popularity, some mainstream banks such as
Skrill's digital wallet will allow Second Life users to purchase what's known as Linden Dollars, which can be used buy products or services within the virtual world.
"We're looking forward to building on our digital entertainment experience and making Second Life users' experiences more enjoyable," said Christopher Russell, Skrill's chief executive, in a Jan. 8 press release.
